The story
ammolite - The Lighthouse Restaurant, at Peter-Thumb-Straße 6 in Rust, Germany, serves Classic French cooking and holds Michelin 2 Star (2026) for excellent cooking. The restaurant sits inside a lighthouse at Europa-Park, and guests can book without a park ticket.
Chef Peter Hagen-Wiest builds each course around the flavour and character of its main ingredient. The kitchen aims to keep things focused rather than fussy. Regional produce from the Black Forest and Kaiserstuhl appears often on the plate. Two eight-course menus are offered, one of them vegetarian.
Recent courses have included huchen with trumpet chanterelles and citrus, and monkfish with Black Forest sausage, swede and juniper. Cheese comes from Maître Affineur Antony, and dessert has paired banana with dark Caraïbe chocolate. The printed menus also list Japanese wagyu, veal sweetbread and Poltinger lamb.
The round dining room is tall, with grand chandeliers and sheer curtains that divide the tables under low light. Lisa-Marie Schmidt leads the front of house. Sommelier Sascha Schmidt oversees a wine list with many prestige bottles and a solid selection by the glass, and wine pairing is available with the menu.
