The story
IKO is a modern international restaurant at Stadtweg 38 a in Osnabrück, awarded one Michelin star in 2026 for high quality cooking. It sits in a quiet residential neighborhood away from the center, with an open kitchen and two parallel menus, one omnivore and one vegetarian.
Both menus run five or seven courses, and a vegan five-course version is possible on request. Sourdough from the wood oven arrives with seaweed butter and smoked salted butter. The omnivore menu opens with ikejime pikeperch from Pistole in Badbergen, paired with yellow beet, salsify and buttermilk. The vegetarian line replaces it with a "false scallop" built on the same garnishes.
The wagyu is grilled over charcoal and served with salted pear, aubergine and coffee. "Der Gang durch den Garten" combines chard, house-made tofu and Angry Plum. Dessert is a pear-vanilla taco with porcini ganache, quince and pumpkin ice cream, a good example of the world-cuisine leanings in the kitchen's modern cooking.
The plates are made in IKO's own workshop, and "Töpfern mit Tom" pottery courses are open to guests. Der Feinschmecker rated the restaurant 2.5 in 2026 and describes an atelier-style room with high chairs and bare tables, where service stays relaxed and approachable. The house gin combines orange, bergamot, pine, ginger and cinnamon.
