The story
Das Jagdhaus at Ludwigstraße 13 in Oberstdorf is a listed inn serving Bavarian cooking, and it holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026. Locals and holidaymakers share its tables, and the kitchen runs without a break until 21:00.
The menu follows a short list of principles. There are no exotic fruits or air-freighted goods, and no meat from factory farming. Fruit and vegetables come from nearby Lake Constance, fish from local waters, and cattle and calves from the Alps. Game comes from the surrounding hunting grounds. The house calls this refined Wirtshaus cooking, and the Schlemmer Atlas, which gave it 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026, notes how deliberately it avoids premium products.
Inside, the cozy Stuben fill a monument-protected building where Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria is said to have celebrated. In summer the beer garden opens under the open sky, from 11:30 in good weather starting in May. A small playground sits nearby, and children and dogs are welcome if you mention them when reserving.
The Wirtshaus closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Parking is available, and the walk from the train station takes 5 to 10 minutes. Private dining, events and weddings are also offered.
