The story
Gasthof Hirschen sits at Wieser Str. 7 in Kleines Wiesental, near Lörrach, where the Badische kitchen cooks with mostly regional ingredients. The 2026 Schlemmer Atlas lists the inn with 2 Kochlöffel, a rating it earns with its terrace and mountain views over the valley.
The kitchen cooks with fresh, mostly local produce. Hearty braised dishes sit alongside lighter Mediterranean-style plates and modern recipes built on briefly seared meat and plenty of vegetables. Vegetables come from the neighbouring Gemüsehof Martin Knoll, and the wines are from the Markgräfler Land.
Dishes with local game are a core part of the menu, along with homemade wild bratwurst. The menu follows the season and what is available, so specific dishes change over time. Guests with allergies, or who eat vegetarian or vegan, can ask the staff for alternatives.
Inside, wooden beams, a tiled stove and rustic seating set a cozy tone. Guests can stay in double rooms, a junior suite or a holiday apartment. The breakfast buffet includes homemade Birchermüsli and jam from Faller Konfitüren, with vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free options. In good weather, the sun terrace is the place for morning coffee.
