The story
Otto in Köln, at Am Hof 48, is a modern Italian kitchen that the Schlemmer Atlas rated 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026. The restaurant serves one fixed evening format, an Italian dinner in six courses, and it sits near the Rheinpromenade in the middle of the city.
Jan Maier and Tobias Becker, who also run the MaiBeck restaurants, opened Otto as a second, more stylish address for their group. Their menu is built around Italian classics, with a stated aim of no folklore and a focus on creative ideas and humble cooking. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The La Sera menu moves from mozzarella and raw kingfish through gnocchi, ravioli and turbot to dessert, at 89 euro per person. Gnocchi come with courgette flower pesto, stracchino and peach, while the tagliatelle are finished with walnut, parsley and Sicilian bergamot. The wild turbot is served with spinach, parsnip cream and mussels. Dessert is a 58 percent chocolate cream with pear sorbet and white chocolate.
The wine list leans toward Italian natural wines, including a Nerello Mascalese from Sicily and a Moscato from Apulia aged in concrete. For aperitivo, there is a Negroni made with spumante and an amaro tonic with lime. An affogato of homemade ice cream, espresso and coffee liqueur closes the meal.
