The story
Restaurant 1463 sits at Friedrichstraße 10 in Karlsruhe, where the kitchen works in a classic cuisine style built on regional and seasonal produce. The restaurant is listed as Michelin Recommended for 2026, and Schlemmer Atlas awards it 2,5 Kochlöffel the same year.
Henning Weick, a trained cook and Küchenmeister, leads the kitchen and the cellar. The menu changes with the market, and the team says most of what reaches the plate is made in-house. When the season and supply allow, ingredients come from producers close by. Alongside regional dishes, the carte includes classics inspired by neighbouring European cooking.
The building dates from 1463 and is the oldest in Karlsruhe. It began as a barn with an adjoining house, and the restaurant keeps that historic character in its stone walls. Schlemmer Atlas describes it as a 550-year-old house, and guests can also stay in one of the apartments on site. In warm weather, a garden lounge and outdoor seating extend the dining room.
The wine list focuses on regional producers. A dedicated section features estates from the Karlsruhe district, with further bottles from Baden and the Palatinate. Older bottles come from a reserve cellar the team calls its treasure chamber. House drinks include a sparkling wine with homemade quince or elderflower syrup, and an alcohol-free aperitif of pear and elderflower with tonic and soda. Wine pairing is available with the menu.
