The story
Fischereihafen Restaurant in Hamburg serves North German seafood at Große Elbstraße 143, directly on the harbor. Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 3.5 Kochlöffel for 2026, praising its fish prepared in the North German style and its harbor view.
Jens Klunker returned to the kitchen in 2018 after several years working elsewhere. He began his training as a young cook here in the late 1980s, and he took over from his father, Wolf-Dieter Klunker, who led the kitchen from 1981 to 2012. The cooking stays close to the fish itself. Der Feinschmecker, which gives the restaurant 2.5 for 2026, describes smoked eel fillet on herb scrambled eggs with dark rye bread and crispy bacon-wrapped plaice served with potato and cucumber salad.
The menu mixes classic fish plates with more unusual dishes. Tuna tartare and pepper steak of tuna on Asian wok vegetables appear alongside sushi and sashimi. Oysters, lobster and caviar are offered throughout the year. Guests who prefer something lighter can order a set menu at lunch, which changes regularly.
Brass and dark wood set the tone in the dining room, and floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the harbor and the Elbe. In fine weather, the balcony terrace seats around 50 guests with a view of the shipping traffic. The oyster bar serves cocktails, champagne and house specialities, and the wine list offers more than 100 selections.
