The story
Speisegaststätte Zum Hexenhäuschen at Marienstr. 6 in Gelsenkirchen serves hearty German cooking in the center of Buer. The Schlemmer Atlas gave it 1.5 Kochlöffel in 2026 and describes a rustic, cozy historic house with a slate facade and shutters.
The menu has a section for deftig bürgerliche Speisen. It lists fried blood sausage and Panhas on mashed potatoes with apple slices and beet syrup sauce, pan-fried Grützwurst with onions, and matjes Hausfrauen Art with bacon potatoes. Starters include French onion soup with a cheese crouton and house-made goulash. Schnitzel is a specialty, from Jäger and Wiener styles to the Bierkutscher with Altbier sauce and scrambled egg. Steak fans can order an Argentinian Black Angus rump steak of about 200 g with herb butter.
The kitchen marks vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. Grilled tofu comes on Mediterranean vegetables with teriyaki sauce, sesame and fresh horseradish. Mushroom caps are filled with spinach, cashews and tomato, then baked with cheese. A soy schnitzel sits on spinach with mushrooms and roasted walnuts. Weekday lunch offers run from 12:00 to 14:30.
The restaurant has announced a completely new kitchen concept from 1 September 2026. Its schnitzel, by its own account, is available only until 31 August 2026. Until then a summer menu applies, so dishes here may change soon.
