The story
Im Schiffchen, at Kaiserswerther Markt 9 in Düsseldorf, is a classic French kitchen that earned one Michelin star in 2026. The restaurant sits in the historic centre of Kaiserswerth, a short drive from the city.
Jean-Claude Bourgueil has served his French haute cuisine here since 1977. The Schlemmer Atlas describes the restaurant as a traditional gourmet house in a Baroque brick building near the Rhine and gives it 3.5 Kochlöffel. On the restaurant's own pages, he describes a philosophy of large-scale cooking built on the best products he can find, with each dish meant to communicate with the diner.
The menu changes daily and combines set menus with à la carte choices. Dishes featured on the site include Dentice from the bay of San Remo with Amalfi lemon and Taggiasca olive, and a handpicked scallop with braised Treviso and passion fruit coulis. Agnolotti filled with roe deer leg arrive in truffle foam, and a Pauillac lamb carré appears among the seasonal plates. The Schlemmer Atlas also mentions veal steaks with chanterelles and gold bream in truffle sauce, served on the terrace.
The site names rooms such as the Heinrich-Heine-Saal and the Seerosen Zimmer, which suit private dinners and events. Guests are received by a captain, and a parking attendant takes care of arriving cars, so the evening starts before the first course.
