The story
Hugos serves French cooking on the 14th floor of the InterContinental Berlin, at Budapester Straße 2, and holds a Michelin star for 2026.
Johannes Gehrich took over the kitchen after Eberhard Lange's ten years, having worked as Lange's sous-chef for years. Lisa Schröder, formerly sous-chef at Alexander Herrmann's AURA, works alongside him. Der Feinschmecker describes the cooking as classic in its foundations but creatively refreshed.
Tasting menus run six or eight courses, and vegetarian versions are available. Scallops come with lemongrass foam, peanut vinaigrette and a carrot and ginger chutney. The bison fillet is served with trumpet mushrooms, teriyaki sauce, a hazelnut and amaranth crunch, cauliflower tempura and bison ham.
The dining room is stylishly modern, with table lamps that dim for a slower evening. Guests who book a window seat get the sunset over the city. Shahab Jalali has streamlined the wine list and focuses on classics. Private dining suits both small and large groups.
