The story
Gasthausbrauerei König von Flandern operates a Bavarian kitchen and brewery at Karolinenstr. 12 in Augsburg, and the Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 1 Kochlöffel in 2026. The inn pairs classic Bavarian cooking with beers brewed on the premises.
The kitchen reworks what the house calls grandmother's traditional recipes, using fresh, high-quality ingredients. The current seasonal menu centers on chanterelles, with a creamy soup finished with a house garnish and a salad of fried mushrooms and crisp bacon. Chanterelles also appear in cream with fresh semmel dumplings, and a grilled beef steak comes with tagliatelle and a chanterelle cream sauce. The Schlemmer Atlas listing also names crusted roast pork, pork knuckle, onion steak and beer bratwurst among the typical dishes.
The Drei-Heller range is brewed to the German Reinheitsgebot of 1516 and served unfiltered and fresh from the cask. The lineup includes Drei-Heller-Hell, a Kellerbier with light and dark malts, and Das Malzige Dunkel, which uses only dark malts. Fruchtige Gold-Weisse is a wheat beer with 50 percent wheat, while Augsburger Doppelbock reaches 7.8 percent ABV.
The building spreads across two floors, and the brewing kettles are visible from the room. The house describes the atmosphere as cozy, a fitting setting for a long lunch or an evening with a pint.
