The story
Vonk, in Kachtem near Roeselare at Kachtemsplein 13, is a fusion kitchen built around fire and seasonal produce, and it earned a Michelin Recommended mention for 2026. The restaurant sits on the village square, where chef Bart Hoornaert's seasonal cooking meets the Belgian countryside.
Chef Bart Hoornaert cooks in a Mibrasa, a charcoal oven where local produce is fried, grilled and slow-cooked. The lunch menu changes every two weeks, with a starter and main course for €39. In the evening you can order à la carte or choose the four-course chef's menu at €79, excluding drinks, which changes daily.
Gault&Millau awarded Vonk 13.5 for 2026, describing a hearty, flavourful bistronomic cuisine. One dish it singled out is a wild sea bass tartare, seasoned well and wrapped in a roll under paper-thin raw fennel and strips of confit tomato. The à la carte also includes fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, all prepared over the Mibrasa.
The greenhouse was built against the side of the Hoornaert family's old village café, and its historic façade was carefully restored. Inside, the warm and relaxed room keeps that link to the past. Guests can book a table in the older part of the building, where the atmosphere feels intimate. Larger groups are served the chef's menu only.
