The story
L'Essentiel is a French restaurant at Rue Roger Clément 32 in Temploux, just outside Namur, and it holds one Michelin star for 2026. The dining room sits in a seventeenth-century tannery, and the French cooking is served in a setting that feels settled and easy to sit in.
The building is a former tannery dating from the 17th century. Bénédicte and her team run the house, and the restaurant describes its welcome as warm. The rooms are bright, and the restaurant offers a choice of separate dining spaces, each with its own mood. The property also has guest rooms, listed on a separate page.
When the weather allows, the terrace opens for an aperitif, coffee or digestif, with views over the gardens. On especially mild days, the meal can also be served outside. Gault&Millau gave the kitchen 16 points in 2026.
