The story
Numerus Clausus serves classic French cuisine at Keldermansstraat 2 in Lier, a corner address near the Sint-Gummaruskerk and across from Felix Timmermans' birthplace. Gault&Millau rated it 14 in 2026.
Chef-owner Steven Persyn trained at the hotel school in Koksijde. His French-leaning kitchen lets the product speak, a style Gault&Millau calls solid and classic, and one he has kept for many years. The Michelin Guide lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The three-course market menu changes with what is available. One version paired scallop carpaccio from Dieppe, Jerusalem artichoke and Granny Smith with a choice of cecina and Belgian pickles. Mains were sea bass with cauliflower and mussel jus, or young duck breast with ginger and gingerbread. The carte adds sole meunière, crispy veal sweetbreads and Irish beef fillet with pepper sauce and hand-cut fries. For dessert there is a tiramisu given a new twist.
Wine is a point of attention here, with hostess Annelies leading the service. Pairings are suggested for dessert, such as a Moelleux from the Côtes de Gascogne, and for the aged cheeses, such as an Rivesaltes Ambré. On warm days you can sit in the air-conditioned dining room or on the terrace.
