The story
Restaurant Melt in Gent serves modern cuisine at Hijfte - Center 40, 9080 Lochristi, and holds 14.5 points from Gault&Millau for 2026. The restaurant was previously known as d'Oude Pastorie, and the team marks twenty years with the new name Melt, keeping the same concept.
Chef Jan Audenaert was named Fish Cook of the Year in 2020, a recognition of his craft and his respect for the product. The kitchen is an ambassador of the North Sea Chefs. It works with underused fish species and bycatch from the North Sea, with the aim of cooking what the fisherman catches rather than only what the kitchen wants to serve.
Lunch offers a quick, relaxed meal, while dinner can be a longer fine dining menu with international accents. Menus change every six weeks, and the Michelin Guide lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
On Tuesday evenings the kitchen sets aside the classic menu. Instead, the table receives a spread of dishes meant for sharing, which suits guests who enjoy tasting and discovering.
The restaurant can be booked for private events, or the chefs can cook at your own location, at home or in an office. Gift vouchers are also available for those who want to give a table.
