The story
La Cène serves seasonal modern cuisine at Rue du Criblet 6 in Fribourg, near the station, and holds 16 points in Gault&Millau for 2026. The Michelin Guide also lists it as Recommended this year.
Mohamed Azeroual was born in Savoie to a Moroccan family, and his mother's cooking shaped his taste. He became chef here in January 2016. He describes his style as instinctive and balanced, with touches of spice and acidity. Gault&Millau credits his inspired approach and notes ten years of consistent work.
A recent early summer menu began with a radish croustillant and a ricotta and thyme cromesqui. Burrata came with roasted apricots and apricot sorbet. The tomato course was diced, cooked, dried and fried, then served with strawberries and a pepper-harissa glace. Beef arrived with tarragon béarnaise and a shallot filled with peanut and hazelnut miso.
A skylight over the center of the dining room brings in daylight, and the decor stays understated. The wine list is a real draw, and the house hosts monthly food and wine pairing evenings.
