The story
Het Seminar is a modern French restaurant at Hertmerweg 42 in Zenderen, near Hengelo, and it earned a Michelin Recommended mention in 2026. The restaurant occupies a former monastery and cooks French-inspired dishes built around produce from its own land.
Chef Daniël Schutte draws on vegetables from the garden, meat from his own livestock, and cheese from the cheesemaker next door. The kitchen's focus is sustainability and local sourcing. The à la carte menu changes every two months, so the dishes follow the season rather than a fixed list.
The Coppa del Seminar comes from the house Gasconne pig, served with zucchini, hangop, and rocket pesto. Reviewers also singled out the trout ceviche with beetroot and pickled onion for its fresh, tangy finish. For mains, the cod with fennel, dill, and orange in green herb oil stood out, and the picanha from Jersey cows, served with polenta, pumpkin, and peas, was described as juicy.
The dining room has herringbone parquet, round banquettes, and colorful armchairs under warm ambient light. An open kitchen sits at one end, and the wine cabinets are a visible feature. Lekker500 included Het Seminar in its Top 500 for 2026. Service is led by Lennart Faber, who takes time to explain each dish and wine.
