The story
Fangfrisch at An der Untertrave 51 in Lübeck is a North German seafood restaurant that earned a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The kitchen focuses on fresh fish and regional produce, and the Schlemmer Atlas 2026 gave it 1.5 Kochlöffel.
The house classic is Backfisch, a fillet of wels from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern fried in the restaurant's own Moinsener beer batter and served with rustic fries and Fangfrisch remoulade. Heavier plates follow the same logic. Matjesteller comes with potatoes fried with bacon from Bauer Schramm and an apple horseradish sauce, while the Labskaus is made from a family recipe with corned beef from the same farm. A vegan version replaces the fish with oyster mushroom in the same batter.
Fangfrisch has held FEINHEIMISCH certification since 2021, which means most of its goods are bought from the region. Whole plaice is pan-fried in butter, and the sturgeon with caviar from the Kortmann fish farm is one of the more special dishes on the menu. The same kitchen runs a food truck that can be booked for events of 50 people or more, and it prepares fish sandwiches and small bites on wooden boards for gatherings of 10 to 800 guests.
The Moinsener Pils is brewed in Lübeck and has a dry, northern character, and the Pale Ale carries an aromatic hop note with a slightly salty body. Cocktails are built on the house EGGNØG and Hauskorn, and the Lübecker Martini uses a rum with marzipan liqueur. The wine list includes Engel No. 1 Solaris from Malente, a northern German white. Ask the crew about the korn selection, since they also offer a tasting.
