The story
Restaurant Mühlentor sits at Mühlenstraße 10 in Bad Kreuznach, where the kitchen serves regional German cooking alongside a set lunch menu and vegetarian dishes. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2 Kochlöffel in 2026, citing its modern feel in both ambiance and cuisine.
The kitchen is credited to Frank Hilgert, working with Fabian, Janine, Benedict and Alex. The menu cooks seasonally with regional ingredients and moves between familiar dishes, such as a shared Sunday lunch, and newer interpretations. Starters range from crispy bruschetta with vine-ripened tomato and Parmesan to a parsley root soup with a light foam.
Steaks are seared in an 800°C Southend Beefer, using exclusively German heifer beef. The menu offers a 200 g beef fillet, a 280 g rump steak and a 300 g ribeye, with cognac pepper or port wine shallot sauce. Other mains include an Original Wiener Schnitzel with fries and a pink-roasted venison loin with Brussels sprouts and celeriac purée.
Vegetarian plates include glazed ricotta and spinach tortellini with braised fennel and saffron beurre blanc. Tomato and rocket dumplings and a falafel bowl also appear on the menu. A four-course Heimat menu is priced at 69 €, and a three-course veggie menu at 46 €, both with optional wine pairings.
