The story
Im Kittchen, a German wine tavern at Alte Poststraße 2 in Bad Kreuznach, holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, recognised for good-quality cooking at good value. The seasonal kitchen works from daily offerings rather than a printed card.
The daily offer is written on a large chalkboard, and the emphasis falls on multi-course surprise menus in tapas format. Menus run from 4 to 9 courses and follow what the kitchen has that day. Ingredients are fresh and seasonal, and sourced from regional suppliers wherever possible. A vegetarian four-course surprise menu is also available.
The wine list leans on the Nahe, the region on the owners' doorstep, though bottles from Germany and across Europe appear too. A rotating regional winemaker each month offers a chance to taste current wines, and winemaker stories often accompany the pours. Wine pairing can be added to the menu. Guests who skip alcohol can order an alcohol-free cocktail or natural juices from orchard meadows along the Nahe.
Kristel and Roy Unger have run the restaurant since 2007 in a protected building in the historic Neustadt. The room seats up to 22, which keeps the atmosphere personal. It also works as a private dining space for birthdays, anniversaries and business dinners, and can be booked outside regular opening hours on request. The Schlemmer Atlas lists it at 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026.
