The story
Jônt is a contemporary French tasting counter at 1904 14th St. N.W. in Washington, DC, and it holds two Michelin stars for excellent cooking, a recognition confirmed in 2026. Dinner is served as a single progressive menu, so the evening moves course by course at the counter.
Ryan Ratino leads the kitchen as executive chef and owner, and he won the 2023 Michelin Young Chef Award. The progressive menu builds on simple, high-quality ingredients from around the world, with a clear nod to Japanese cuisine. The restaurant describes its approach as loosening the line between cooks and guests, which suits the counter setting.
The tasting menu is priced at $375 per person, except on specially priced days and events, and it changes with seasonal ingredients. Allergies and preferences can usually be accommodated if they are noted at least seven days ahead. The kitchen cannot offer a fully vegan or Celiac-safe meal, because soy, mushrooms, cooked allium, butter and cooked alcohol run through the cooking.
The wine program earned a 2022 Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence and is led by beverage director Will Patton. Pastry falls to executive pastry chef Yoonjung Oh, who completes the menu's final courses.
