The story
Tiya, at 3213 Scott Street in San Francisco, is a modern Indian restaurant that holds a Michelin Recommended designation for 2026. Chef brothers Sujan and Pujan Sarkar built the kitchen around California produce and the cooking they grew up eating.
TIYA is the first joint venture for the Sarkar brothers, a New Indian kitchen that pairs Indian technique with seasonal California ingredients. Chef Pujan Sarkar describes the approach plainly: "We cook the food we grew up eating, just with everything we've learned since leaving home." The team works directly with local farms, Hawk Creek Farm among them, and the menu shifts with the harvest.
The roasted squash and poblano dumpling arrives in green saag gravy with lotus crisp. The charcoal roasted barramundi comes with masala kappa pave and Alleppey curry. Lamb shank roast is served over zarda pulao with nihari and mint. On weekend brunch, the Kashmiri duck kulcha with apricot and chili chutney is a strong pick, and the rasmalai tart finishes the meal with fresh mango, passion fruit mousse and pistachio.
A cocktail and wine list runs alongside the food menu. Wine Spectator gave Tiya its Award of Excellence in 2025.
