The story
The Kitchen Restaurant in Sacramento serves Californian cooking at 915 Broadway, and it holds a Michelin star from 2026 for high quality cooking. The menu draws on the farm-to-fork roots the Selland family has kept since the restaurant opened.
The Kitchen began in 1991 as a family project of chefs Randall Selland and Nancy Zimmer, with their children Josh Nelson and Tamera Baker. It started as a catering facility, then grew into Demonstration Dinners, where the chefs cooked behind the counter and talked with guests. Executive Chef Kelly McCown now leads the kitchen, working with local growers, ranchers and artisan producers the family has known for years.
Wine Spectator gave the restaurant its Best of Award of Excellence in 2018. The menu offers seasonal wine pairings, a limited reserve pairing, and cocktail and mocktail pairings, along with a complete wine and spirits list. Counter seating and a chef's table put guests close to the line.
