The story
Le Pavillon sits at 1 Vanderbilt Ave in New York City, a contemporary French restaurant that earned one Michelin star in 2026. The kitchen works in seafood and vegetables, drawing on French tradition and New York's culinary history.
Chef Daniel Boulud's New York roots shape the restaurant, and Executive Chef Will Nacev writes the menu. Seasonality is the starting point, with a close focus on produce from Northeast farmers and fish from Northeast fishermen. The cooking pays homage to French technique while reflecting the city around it.
The oysters Vanderbilt were created for the restaurant: oysters gratinée with hazelnut, bacon and a seaweed crust. Lunch offers a two-, three- or five-course tasting menu, and dinner runs three or six courses. The wine list holds more than 650 selections, and the Forbes Travel Guide four-star listing (2026) singles out the bar's Pamplemousse cocktail, made with Aviation Gin, blackberry and sparkling grapefruit. Yohko Ogata leads the pastry program as Executive Pastry Chef.
Designed by Isay Weinfeld, the dining room is built around gardens and tall olive trees beneath soaring ceilings. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of Grand Central Terminal and the Chrysler Building, and sunset is the time to book for the light. Bar Vandy has a hand-blown glass chandelier and a view of the Chrysler Building. The Garden Table, surrounded by olive trees, seats up to 14 guests for semi-private dining. Business casual dress is recommended, and gentlemen should skip shorts and sandals.
