The story
Gabriel Kreuther in New York City serves contemporary French cooking with an Alsatian core at 41 West 42nd Street, and the restaurant holds two Michelin stars (2026). Chef Gabriel Kreuther opened it in June 2015 in the heart of Midtown, pairing classic French training with the flavors of his home region.
Before he moved to the United States, Chef Kreuther cooked in Michelin-starred kitchens in Germany, France and Switzerland. His American stops included La Caravelle, Restaurant Jean-Georges Central Park, Atelier at the Ritz-Carlton and The Modern. Strasbourg, his hometown, shapes the menu, and the cooking keeps a steady line of Alsatian technique.
The La Belle Foie Gras Terrine arrives with madeira gelée, apricot jam and brioche. Ravioli "Strasbourgeoise" comes filled with bone marrow and fines herbes, served in a sunchoke broth. Dessert often finishes on the Chocolate Tart Soufflé, with coffee crémeux, pecan praline and whiskey sabayon.
Reclaimed wood beams echo the half-timbered houses of Alsace, and hand-painted patterns run along the walls. Forty-two crystal storks hang from the ceiling, all flying east toward Strasbourg. The Kitchen Table seats up to 10 guests beside the open kitchen, while the Bar & Lounge serves the main menu à la carte.
