The story
Frevo is a contemporary European restaurant at 48 W. Eighth St. in New York City's Greenwich Village, and it holds One Michelin Star as of 2026. The dining room shares its walls with a working contemporary art gallery, so the menu, the exhibition, and the wine pairings all change together.
Chef Franco Sampogna builds the menu around sauces. The cooking rests on classical French technique, with South American and Asian influences running through it. The tasting menu rotates every four months, alongside the gallery exhibition and the pairings. Co-founder Bernardo Silva leads the hospitality side, and the two opened the restaurant together in May 2019.
Beverage Director Quentin Vauléon, Best Young Sommelier in France 2017, signs the wine list. Guests can choose a Wine Pairing, a Premium Pairing, or a Non-Alcoholic Pairing, or they can order by the glass or bottle. Wine Spectator honored the list with its Best of Award of Excellence in 2025.
Frevo hosts three to four art exhibitions a year, and the current show features Wall Paper Boy by the French artist TOMA-L. His work mixes paper collage and charcoal with painted wallpaper, and he was the first artist to exhibit at Frevo in its 2019 opening show. The dress code is elegant casual, and jackets are not required.
