Celebrated table

Estela

Chef Ignacio Mattos' intimate downtown bistro at 47 East Houston Street, open since 2013, holds one Michelin star and pours a deep, French-leaning wine list.

The story

Estela, New York City: Modern American Bistro with a Michelin Star

Estela is a modern American restaurant at 47 East Houston Street in New York City, awarded one Michelin star in 2026. Chef Ignacio Mattos opened the downtown bistro in 2013.

Kitchen and dining room

The cooking draws on contemporary American and Mediterranean ideas, and the restaurant says several of its signature dishes have become New York classics. Juliana Corrado is chef de cuisine, with Ariel Hernandez as general manager. Lunch, midday and dinner menus change, so the dining room, the bar and the weekend brunch tables each offer something different.

The wine list

The list is organized by region, running from Champagne and Loire Valley whites to Burgundy reds and a magnum section. By the glass, expect Manzanilla sherry from Andalucía, Mosel Riesling, Beaujolais Gamay and a red from the Canary Islands. Wine Spectator recognized the program with its Best of Award of Excellence in 2025.
