The story
Crane Club is an American steakhouse at 85 10th Ave. in New York City, and it received a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2025. The restaurant sits in West Chelsea and built its reputation on cooking over live wood fire.
Chef Melissa Rodriguez leads the kitchen, which works with seasonal ingredients from small regional farms and fisheries. Grilling happens on a 12-foot custom Mibrasa grill. Beef short rib is braised first, then finished over the wood grill, and the smoke carries through the dish. Vegetables receive the same attention as meat and seafood.
Charred lobster salad and wood-smoked clams come off that grill. The raw bar is served tableside from a custom cart, with razor clams in vinaigrette and shrimp crudo. The menu is à la carte, and larger family-style feasts are available. Pastas can be made gluten free.
The restaurant holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The cocktail list includes the Vintage Vesper 1953, a recreation of the Vesper Martini made with a rare 1953 bottle of Kina Lillet, gin and vodka from the 1950s. The wine list is long enough to offer Champagne by the glass alongside Barolo served via Coravin.
