The story
Caviar Russe sits at 538 Madison Avenue in New York City, where its contemporary seafood menu centers on caviar. The restaurant earned a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating in 2026. Its Midtown townhouse holds two spaces, a downstairs lounge and an upstairs dining room.
The downstairs lounge is dark and atmospheric, with royal blue velvet bar seats and intimate banquettes. Upstairs, the main restaurant feels like a lavish townhouse, with crown moldings, hand-painted wallpaper and Hollywood-style bench seating. A caviar boutique on the lower level sells mother-of-pearl spoons, Christofle caviar servers and tins of to-go caviar.
The kitchen sources its caviar from a German sturgeon farm, not from the Chinese farms that supply much of the industry. The Bar & Lounge pairs caviar with a raw bar, small bites and shared plates. The dining room serves seasonal tasting menus built around the same ingredient.
