The story
MAASS by Ryan Ratino, at 525 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale, is a contemporary American restaurant that earned one Michelin star in 2026. The kitchen cooks over an open-fire hearth and sources ingredients from the finest markets, and the menu reflects that focus on produce and seafood.
Chef Ryan Ratino builds the menu around the hearth. The lineup draws on French and Japanese influences, so a single meal can move from brioche and foie gras to koji-aged beef. Menus change often, and the printed lists note that they are subject to change.
Wellfleet oysters come with Florida orange, coconut and smoked ginger. The striped bass is served with a spring chowder of potato, fiddlehead fern and mussels, and the Hokkaido scallop pairs with snow crab and a corn custard tart. For dessert, "The Banana" combines miso caramel, hazelnut and chocolate ice cream.
Fourteen seats sit inside the kitchen dining area at the Chef's Counter, where guests watch the cooks at work. Sunset Hour runs daily from 5 to 7 PM at the bar and patio, with classic cocktails and wines by the glass. The wine list received a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2024.
