The story
Mercat Bistro is a French bistro at 2501 N. Harwood St. in Dallas, listed as Recommended in the Michelin Guide for 2026. The kitchen runs from early pastries through dinner, with a separate weekend brunch.
On Monday to Thursday evenings, a five-course tasting menu costs $150 per guest, and a sommelier wine pairing adds $40. It opens with foie gras mousseline and cherry, then moves to seared scallops with artichoke barigoule and seared duck breast with apricot gastrique. Wagyu with black truffle and morel comes fourth. Mille feuille with vanilla crème and citrus caramel closes the meal.
The kitchen cooks only with tallow rendered in-house from the HWD Harwood Premium Beef Program, and it uses the whole animal. No nut or seed oils are used. Texas wagyu appears in the lunchtime steak frites with peppercorn sauce and in the Mercat Burger, served on brioche with gruyère and caramelized onions.
Weekday breakfast centers on the pastry case: almond and pistachio croissants, kouign amann, pain au chocolat. Quiche Lorraine and croque monsieur carry on through lunch. Weekend brunch brings French-inspired classics and the Pêche Mignon, a frozen mix of fruit, orange juice and sparkling wine.
The wine list leans French, and Wine Spectator gave it an Award of Excellence in 2023. Cocktails include the Belle Vie, built from orange brandy, French vermouth, lemon and ginger. The Montmartre is a zero-proof option made with non-alcoholic whiskey.
