The story
Rose Mary sits at 932 W. Fulton St. in Chicago's Fulton Market district, where chef Joe Flamm's Croatian and Italian cooking earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2022. It is Flamm's debut restaurant, and the menu draws on the Italian kitchen of his heritage alongside the brighter flavors of the Croatian coast.
Flamm calls the food "Adriatic drinking food," rustic dishes with a refined finish. The pasta section includes tortellini djuvec with red pepper and preserved zucchini at $24, and rigatoni with capra brasato and goat cheese at $26. Vegetables, fish and a 24oz bone-in ribeye round out the card.
Designed by Studio UNLTD, the dining room uses whitewashed brick and honey-colored oak. Its tilework in red clay and deep azure recalls the family-run konoba taverns of Croatia.
