The story
Garrison is an American restaurant at 101 Red River Street in downtown Austin, Texas, and earned a 2026 Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating. The kitchen cooks seasonal American dishes over open fire, and the grill shapes much of the menu.
The mains come from the menu's Post Oak fired grill. A 7oz Texas Wagyu petite tender arrives with coal-roasted potatoes and smoked onion conserva. Ikejima red snapper is paired with koshihikari rice and preserved citrus butter, and smoked cabbage with pastrami-spiced vegetable jus gives non-meat eaters a grilled option.
Begin with grilled Gulf oyster, served with creamed spinach foam and smoked butter crumbs, or with the smoked mushroom croquette, which comes with black truffle emulsion. The garrison tater tots are finished with raclette and black truffles. Housemade sourdough arrives with cultured French butter, a small opening that suits the rest of the meal.
The private dining room seats 16, or holds 30 standing. Its wood paneling and turquoise chairs give it a cabin feel with a modern edge. The bar pours the Garrison Dirty Martini and Farrah's Watching, a bourbon and dry sherry drink, and the menu also lists alcohol-free cocktails such as Thyme After Time. For dessert, the chocolate soufflé with caramel cream and the apple fig crumble with vanilla ice cream are both on the list.
