The story
Emmer & Rye, at 51 Rainey St. in Austin, Texas, is a seasonal American kitchen that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant opened in 2015 and builds its menu around what local farmers bring in.
The menu changes daily, so the dishes follow the farmer's haul. Heirloom grains are milled in house for pastas, breads and desserts. Whole animal butchery also happens on site. An in-house fermentation program captures produce at its peak and keeps those flavors for the off season.
The dining room takes parties of up to 14 as a standard reservation. Groups of seven or more are served a set menu built for the table, and private events are hosted on request. The wine list, which changes with the menus, earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2023.
