The story
The Woodsman, at 4 Chapel Street in Stratford-upon-Avon, is a modern British restaurant inside the Hotel Indigo. The AA awarded it 2 Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026, and the kitchen builds its menu around wild food and English countryside produce.
The restaurant works on a field to fork approach, sourcing from the land around Stratford. Restaurateur Mike Robinson, who hunts and forages, shapes a menu of wild food cooked with century-old techniques. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The building dates to 1500 and is Grade II listed. It served as an inn between 1655 and 1661 and hosted the Royal Shakespeare Club's annual dinner from as early as 1824. The room has open fires, and the midweek roe deer shoulder share board for two comes with a bottle of house red.
