The story
Quality Chop House, at 91-94 Farringdon Road in Clerkenwell, London, is a British kitchen built around steaks and chops, and The Good Food Guide rates it Very Good for 2026. The Grade II listed site has housed a restaurant since 1869, and the current restaurant opened in 2012 under chef Shaun Searley.
The menu changes daily, but a chop and a large steak are almost always on it. The mangalitza bacon chop has a fat cap about three-quarters of an inch thick that melts into an intensely savoury bite. The Hereford sirloin arrives sliced off the bone on antique crockery, with a deep-brown crust and evenly pink flesh. The confit potatoes are the dish people talk about, and they come out crisp.
The dining room has chequerboard flooring, oak benches and narrow tables with cast-iron legs, with a view of the kitchen through an arched doorway. The wine list leans toward interesting New World bottles and some more unusual drops, and staff are good at steering diners through it. Quality Wines next door is also worth a visit.
