The story
Morchella, at 84-86 Rosebery Avenue in Islington, London, is a Mediterranean restaurant that earned a 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking. It sits just off Exmouth Market in a former bank, with a wine bar alongside the dining room.
The Mediterranean menu favours warm, generous plates. Spinach and feta spanakopita comes wrapped in very delicate filo. Lobster spaghetti arrives in a rich shellfish and tomato sauce, finished with fresh basil.
The kitchen handles meat with the same care. Slow-cooked pork jowl has thin, crisp crackling and a dollop of quince compote. For dessert, the black fig and fig-leaf choux bun is the one to order.
Oak panelling, parquet flooring and arched wood-framed windows make the room large and bright. The open-plan kitchen sits in the middle of it, so the room gets loud when busy, and the counter seats are uncomfortable for long meals.
The wine list leans organic, biodynamic and European, grouped as classic, coastal or funky. Cocktails, softs and beers are also served. The Good Food Guide lists Morchella as Good for 2026.
