The story

Kudu, London: South African open-fire dining at 7 Moxon Street, Marylebone

Kudu is a South African restaurant at 7 Moxon Street in London's Marylebone, where the kitchen cooks over an open-fire braai grill. The Good Food Guide included it in its 2026 Readers Recommend list after the team moved the restaurant from Peckham to central London.

Open-fire cooking

The menu is modern European cooking with a South African twist, borrowing flavours and techniques from the owners' homeland. Live fire is central to the kitchen, and the braai grill sits at the centre of the room. Co-owner Patrick Williams draws on his Cape Town roots, and the Kudu bread with flavoured butters and peri-peri prawns from the Peckham years remain on the menu.

Room and atmosphere

The interiors use earthy pink plaster walls, red marble tables and rope detailing, a nod to beachside restaurants in South Africa. The flagship Kudu Restaurant, the open-fire Kudu Grill and the private dining space Curious Kudu now share one site.
