The story
The Connaught Grill is at Carlos Place, Mayfair, London W1K 2AL, where the hotel's modern French cooking holds three Michelin stars (2026). The principal dining room has been run by Hélène Darroze for 14 years, and its seasonal tasting menus follow a French kitchen built on produce the chef chooses herself.
Hélène Darroze selects the farmers, makers and growers who supply the kitchen, so each dish starts with ingredients she has chosen. Menus are shaped around each guest's tastes rather than a fixed set. The Good Food Guide describes the kitchen as running at full speed, with wine flights that rise through the price range alongside the courses.
A recent review described Paimpol coco beans with smoked eel, Nepalese timut pepper and clam consommé as a strong opening course. Lobster tail arrives under a foam built on burnt hay, with a sweet-and-sour gel and tarragon purée. Rhug lamb is seasoned with ras el hanout and served with apricot and spelt. The signature baba is soaked in one of Darroze's bespoke vintage Armagnacs and served with raspberries and peppered crème fraîche.
Pierre Yovanovitch designed the dining room in blush tones, with curved lines, deep velvet and leather seating, and a blue blown-glass chandelier above exposed wooden tables. The Chef's Table sits on a pink marble table overlooking the pass for up to 10 guests, with a bespoke seven-course menu prepared in advance. The Sommelier's Table in the private dining room pairs hand-selected wines with each course.
