The story
Locanda de Gusti serves Italian food at 102 Dalry Road in Edinburgh, and its kitchen holds two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence (2026). The restaurant sits about five minutes' walk from Haymarket Station.
Rosario Sartore grew up in a large family in Naples, where he learned to cook beside his mother and aunt on their trips to the market. He now cooks that food in Edinburgh. Italian products are imported and paired with Scottish meat, fish and seafood, and the kitchen makes everything from scratch each day.
The à la carte has included paccheri from Gragnano tossed in Scottish crab bisque and topped with hand-picked crab, and burrata from Puglia served with an oven-baked frittata. Monkfish arrives in a guazzetto of cannellini beans and Piennolo tomatoes. Gluten-free dishes, desserts included, are offered, and vegan guests can be catered for on request. The sample menu changes daily, so the dishes you find may differ from those listed online.
Rosario and his wife Maria run the dining room, which takes its feel from the trattorias of Naples. Tables suit an intimate dinner for two, a lunch with friends or a large family celebration. The room rewards a slow meal, with the kitchen's pace set by the day's ingredients.
