The story
Midsummer House in Cambridge serves modern British cooking at Midsummer Common, CB4 1HA, and holds two Michelin stars (2026). Chef-patron Daniel Clifford opened the restaurant in 1998 in a Victorian villa that stands with its back to the River Cam.
Clifford's modern British cooking follows the seasons and leans on natural, purely flavoured ingredients. The surprise set menu changes regularly, and the Solstice, Corpus and Trinity menus each arrive one course at a time, introduced by the front-of-house team. A window from the dining room looks into the kitchen, so guests can watch the brigade at work. The restaurant has also earned five AA rosettes (2026).
The wine list runs to more than 700 references from 36 countries, and a sommelier can pair a wine flight to each course. Alcohol-free pairings are built by a dedicated "juicelier" from juices, infusions and extractions, rather than as a substitute for wine. The Solstice Menu opens with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Champagne.
