The story
Lark is a modern European restaurant at 6A Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, rated Very Good by The Good Food Guide for 2026. Its menu is built on seasonal, local ingredients and arranged as small plates meant to be shared around the whole table.
The meal often starts with nibbles and small plates, such as cep arancini and cured Suffolk sea bass with horseradish, kohlrabi and tartare sauce. Larger plates bring more layered flavours, like spatchcock quail with black-bean purée and Padrón peppers. The sample menu changes day to day with what is in season, so each visit tends to read differently.
A few tables sit on the pavement, and the interior is plainly furnished in café style, hung with calm, varied pictures. The team is knowledgeable and attentive. The wine list is imaginative, with prices that stay reasonable even at the top end. Michelin lists Lark as Recommended for 2026, and desserts lean on vivid fruit, with a seasonal trifle, perhaps cherry and white chocolate, often on the list.
