The story
The Prince of Wales is a Modern British pub and restaurant on Church Lane in Baslow, Derbyshire, holding 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026. Max Fischer runs it as a self-styled village pub and restaurant, and the kitchen is built around seasonal produce.
The Good Food Guide named it a 2026 Local Gem, praising a strong kitchen and a polished front of house team. The pub was formerly Rowley's. Seasonal ingredients lead the cooking, and the guide singles out an autumn plate of gnocchi with butternut squash sauce, fried sage and a fieldful of mushrooms. The restaurant says it sources fresh produce from Derbyshire and the Peak District.
The building offers several places to sit. There is a downstairs bar, an open kitchen where guests can watch the cooks at work all year, and a bright gallery dining room upstairs. In summer, a terrace looks out over the rolling hills.
Local artisan ales and beers share the list with wines, gins and botanicals. Dogs and their well-behaved owners are welcome at the bar. The pub also takes private parties, and the tags note gluten-free options and a kids-friendly approach.
