The story
1924 İstanbul in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, serves Russian and Turkish cuisine from Istiklal Caddesi, Olivya Geçidi No:7. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, and Gault&Millau gave it a score of 11 the same year, placing it among the city's most closely watched Russian kitchens.
Russians fleeing the Bolshevik revolution founded the restaurant to recreate the urbane life they had left behind. In the early Turkish Republic it became the place for an evening out, where royals, émigrés, civil servants, bohemians and politicians shared the wood-panelled dining room. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a loyal client, drawn by the sophisticated atmosphere and the Russian delicacies.
The menu keeps the classics with a few new twists. Russian borscht, piroshki, beef stroganoff, kievsky and faberge anchor the kitchen. Infused vodkas sit alongside the cocktails, and the bar is open to walk-in guests during opening hours. Live musicians play harp, piano and accordion while Russian music fills the room.
