The story
Donatz in St. Moritz serves country cooking at Plazzet 15 in Samedan, and Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 14 points for 2026. The dining room sits inside the family-run Hotel Donatz, a three-star superior hotel in the centre of the village.
René and Cornelia Donatz run the hotel and restaurant, and they took over the business in 2008. Both trained as cooks, and René later worked on cruise ships before the couple settled into the family house. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The house specialty is Angus Rindsfilet Woranoff, flambéed at the table. Gault&Millau also singles out gratinated garden snails with herb butter and a veal cutlet braised in red wine jus, served on creamy celery purée with fresh vegetables. Angus roast beef is a regular feature, and the restaurant highlights it each Friday.
The dining room is a cosy stube panelled in Arvenholz, the local stone pine. Guests describe the service as very friendly, and the wine list has earned particular praise. The separate Wine Bar stocks more than 550 wines, with 20 available by the glass.
