The story
Casino Restaurant in Bern, at Casinoplatz 1, runs a modern French kitchen that earned 14 points from Gault&Millau for 2026. It sits in the heart of Bern inside the Casino Bern complex, open 365 days a year.
Bernese chef Bill Stooss leads the pass. His resume includes stints at Anton Mosimann's and The Dorchester in London. The kitchen works three ways: a gourmet menu, the grandes pièces cooked over the Josper grill, and an à la carte selection of bistro dishes. On concert nights about 40 guests can sit at the Izakaya bar and 120 in the main restaurant, and Gault&Millau notes that Stooss keeps his composure through it.
The meal opens with small bites, including a herb taco filled with poultry liver. Oysters arrive gently poached and crisply fried, in two pairings with ponzu and celery. A game consommé with crisp black salsify and duck ravioli shows careful stock work. The centrepiece is venison entrecôte encrusted with pistachios, cooked in the Josper. Apple and walnut with sorbet and parfait closes the menu.
The dining rooms are spacious and indoors, and a terrace opens in summer. Under one roof the house lists several concepts, among them Modern Brasserie, Sommer Grill and Salon d'Or. The Michelin Guide lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026, alongside its Gault&Millau score.
