The story
Brücke in Aarau sits at Hauptstrasse 2 in Niedergösgen, on the Aare between Aarau and Olten, where the modern cuisine has earned 16 points from Gault&Millau in 2026. The restaurant has been in the Gfeller family since 1908, and the current generation runs a kitchen that moves between classic and contemporary dishes.
Thomas Messerli leads the kitchen and builds the evening meal around the Tavolata menu. Guests share starters, order intermediate courses, then choose among several main dishes. Individual dishes can also be ordered à la carte, and a vegetarian version of the menu is available.
Reviewers singled out a consommé made from Albula potato peelings, finished with a Wagyu salami chip. Cappelletti filled with Thai vegetables came on shiitake cream with lemongrass coconut foam. A pea and rainbow trout from Rohr AG, and lamb cutlets with a kohlrabi millefeuille, also stood out.
The garden terrace faces the river, and the building is newer than the family name suggests. The dessert that drew the most praise was the Brücken-Cremeschnitte, a custard slice that reviewers chose over the seasonal strawberry and rhubarb plate. The wine list is described as impressive.
