The story
Kendov Dvorec sits at Na Griču 2 in Spodnja Idrija, where its Slovenian kitchen works from Idrija regional recipes and local ingredients. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 14.5 points in 2026, and the manor's dining room is listed as organic on wattafork.
The menus change with the seasons, and the kitchen cooks from recipes handed down through generations. Diners choose between the fish-based Katarina menu and the meat-based Jakob menu. Gault&Millau singled out a venison fillet served with handmade žlikrofi, asparagus and pumpkin purée as the high point of one evening.
The Jakob menu has opened with smoked lamb, beans and a touch of horseradish. Bleki pasta with rabbit and sage follows, in a silky sauce reduced from stock. Older dishes such as bakalca and zelševka also appear on the menus, tying the modern cooking back to the valley's own tradition.
Marija Golja has tended the garden since 1996, working among linden, chestnut and walnut trees. Guests can dine outdoors on the terrace. The cellar holds wines from Primorska producers, and the house sommelier leads tastings from the collection. The Secret Garden cocktail took part in the Relais & Châteaux Cocktail Trophy Competition in 2021.
