The story
Robata is a Japanese grill at The Canopy, Northern Ring Road, Hittin, Riyadh, and it appears as Recommended in the Michelin Guide 2026. The kitchen cooks over open flame, in the manner of robatayaki.
Robatayaki comes from the Ainu people of Hokkaido, and the restaurant builds its menu around that tradition. Solid binchotan charcoal gives the meats a smoky, dramatic edge. A large counter of cuts and carefully arranged ingredients greets guests at the entrance. The team behind Myazu runs the project, and the plates are made for sharing.
Gault&Millau gave Robata 12.5 in 2026 and praised its precision. The gyoza arrives on its sauce under a crisp tuile. The menu is divided into cold small plates, hot and robata small plates, robata large cuts, and sushi and maki rolls. A "robata exclusives" list includes toro tataki, Wagyu sando, a bone-in Wagyu rib-eye and truffle king crab takikomi.
The interior is large, and the grill sits at the center of the action. Outside, the al fresco terrace looks over Riyadh. Air conditioning, outdoor seating and valet parking are all available, and the venue has wheelchair access.
