The story
Stary Niedźwiedź in Zakopane is a modern cuisine restaurant at Strążyska 33A, where the kitchen earned a 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant occupies a villa at the foot of the Tatra Mountains.
Head chef Marcin Filipkiewicz cooks to the season. Regional ingredients appear often, including bundz cheese, trout from Jurgów, and lamb. The menu draws on Polish and European traditions, prepared with a creative hand in a modern Polish and European cooking style.
Guinea fowl breast comes with bacon confit, coffee, and carrot purée. Foie gras is paired with dark chocolate and forest fruits. The drinks list is distinctive, so finding the right wine or cocktail for each course is straightforward.
The dining room is built from natural wood, with a muted palette, soft upholstered furniture, and a working fireplace. Gault&Millau gave the restaurant a score of 12 in 2026 for its interior and atmosphere. The room suits a romantic dinner as well as an evening with friends, away from the bustle of Krupówki.
